The tour to discover where Gorgonzola PDO is produced
Gorgonzola is a product of excellence known, tasted and appreciated all over the world. Gorgonzola PDO must necessarily be produced with milk from farms in only two Italian regions: Lombardy and Piedmont in the provinces of Novara, Vercelli, Cuneo, Biella, Verbano Cusio Ossola and the area of Casale Monferrato for Piedmont; and Bergamo, Brescia, Como, Cremona, Lecco, Lodi, Milan, Monza, Pavia and Varese for Lombardy, thanks to the 3,000 farms scattered across the territory covered by the consortium, that provide the milk for cheese making.
Gorgonzola is in fact produced by about 30 dairies united in the Consortium for Protection that process the milk in compliance with health and hygiene regulations, with equipped laboratories and the care and experience necessary for a cheese that requires considerable intervention and manual control.
What better occasion than World Tourism Day, which is celebrated on 27 September, to visit the places where this Italian excellence is produced?
Above all, foodtravellers, tourists who love travelling to the discovery of the excellent food and wine that tell the story of the territory, can organize a food and wine tour in the production areas of Gorgonzola PDO in order to grasp the close link with the territory and the authenticity of the product, also discovering the right pairings to taste this cheese with its unique flavour.
