As of May 31, 2026, Gorgonzola Pdo production stood at 2,197,094 wheels, essentially stable compared to the first half of the previous year (-0.28%). It is interesting to note that Lombardy has emerged as a region with a strong focus on spicy Gorgonzola Pdo. In fact, in May of this year alone, 10,638 wheels were produced, marking a 19% increase.
Exports recorded in the first quarter of 2026 also remained essentially stable. A total of 6,350 metric tons of Gorgonzola Pdo were exported, of which 5,508 metric tons went to the European market and the remainder to the rest of the world. The French market continues to grow, importing 121,228 wheels (+1.1%) during the period under review, while the German market remains the second-largest, with 109,394 wheels of Gorgonzola Pdo imported, though this represents an 11.5% decline compared to the first quarter of 2025. Within the EU, Poland (+13%), Luxembourg (+14.4%), Austria (+25.3%), and the Netherlands (+26%) posted excellent performance. Among non-EU countries, Japan leads the way with just under 10,000 wheels imported, up 16.4%, followed by the United Kingdom (8,610 wheels), which finally returned to growth with a 4.2% increase (CLAL data).
The Consortium remains active, launching targeted digital campaigns and participating in trade fairs and industry events abroad to promote and highlight the characteristics of Gorgonzola Pdo worldwide.
