The third leg of #gorgonzolatour involves three provinces of Lombardy pertaining to the consortium area: Monza, Lecco and Como
Monza, one of the most productive areas in Europe, from a historic and artistic standpoint is related to Lecco through many places related to Manzoni’s work that can still be visited. Even Gorgonzola cheese has a cameo role in the novel “I Promessi Sposi” (The Betrothed)! The character Renzo, while fleeing across the fields around Milan, arrives to a lodging outside Milan being very hungry, and he gets served the famous “stracchino verde“ as Gorgonzola cheese was called in ancient times.
In Lecco our tour includes Villa Manzoni where you can visit the rooms where Alessandro Manzoni used to admire the mountains and the calm waters of Lake Como that have been the background of his famous novel. We will discover that Lecco is also renown for the polenta gialla, “taragna” or “vuncia”, just perfect with Gorgonzola PDO!
At the end, the tour moves on to the Como branch of Lake Como, certainly more elite than the Lecco branch, with its panoramic walks and entrancing small towns such as Tremezzo, Menaggio, Varenna, Bellagio and Cernobbio that can also be reached by renting a boat.
