France is confirmed as the leader in the import of Italian dairy geographical indications. In 2023, French cousins purchased more than 40,000 tons of PDO and PGI cheeses, worth about 470 million euros, accounting for nearly half of the total value of Italian dairy exports.
These numbers translated into an impressive presence of Made in Italy agribusiness at the latest edition of Sial, which just ended in Paris. Italian dairy companies and consortia exceeded France itself in the number of exhibitors.
Among the most beloved cheeses beyond the Alps was Gorgonzola DOP, which participated at the Sial in Paris within the AFIDOP collective stand together with the Consorzi di Tutela del Taleggio, Asiago, Grana Padano, and Mozzarella di Bufala Campana. At the booth, dishes created by chef Danny Imbroisi to highlight the 5 Italian PDO cheeses were approved by many visitors.
The Consortium Gorgonzola Pdo was also among the protagonists of an exclusive “offsite” event. On October 20, the excellence of Italian PDO and PGI cheeses was celebrated in “Un aperitif à l’italienne” in the heart of Paris at the Automobile Club de France. It was a magical evening that saw Chef Carla Ferrari engage in a spectacular live show, cooking 5 dishes created with the PDO cheeses presented at SIAL: Asiago, Gorgonzola, Grana Padano, Mozzarella di Bufala Campana, and Taleggio. The Consortium Gorgonzola Pdo President and AFIDOP President Antonio Auricchio and the Italian Ambassador to France, Emanuela d’Alessandro, attended the evening.
