The Consortium Gorgonzola Pdo is preparing to take part, together with Afidop Associazione Formaggi Italiani PDO and PGI, in the 69th edition of Summer Fancy Food, scheduled from June 29 to July 1, 2025, at the Javits Convention Center in the heart of Manhattan, New York.
This will be another opportunity to promote Gorgonzola Pdo in the North American market, which has many enthusiasts but also pays the price for the lack of legal protection. It is therefore even more important to raise awareness among the US public, as the President of the Consortium Antonio Auricchio argues, of the quality and taste of Gorgonzola Pdo, the only authentic “made in Italy” cheese, because it is made from raw materials and the craftsmanship of Italian cheesemakers.
In the first two months of this year, 5,605 wheels of sweet Gorgonzola Pdo and spicy Gorgonzola Pdo were shipped to the US, a slight increase (2.3%) compared to the same period last year, placing the US market in first place among non-EU countries.
The uncertainties to be faced in the US will be those relating to American tariffs which, if confirmed, could see a significant increase in the cost of Gorgonzola Pdo in the US. With this in mind, President Auricchio will meet with Italian Ambassador Mariangela Zappia in New York to discuss issues related to the protection of Gorgonzola and other Italian PDO and PGI cheeses in the US.
