Exports of Gorgonzola Pdo grew by 1.9 percent in 2022 to a total of 25,191 tons, or 2,099,250 exported wheels, with an increase in value of about 178 million euros (+16.4 percent over 2021).
Of the more than 5 million 48 thousand wheels of Gorgonzola Pdo produced in 2022, about 40 percent was absorbed by foreign markets. The Italian blue cheese reached 87 countries around the world last year.
The European Union absorbed most of the export by registering an increase of 2.7 percent or 1,811,083 wheels in 2022.
The two leading countries in the world for imports of Gorgonzola Pdo are confirmed to be France and Germany, which alone absorb almost half of exports, with a novelty: with 492,393 wheels imported, France becomes the first importing country, surpassing, for the first time since 2012, Germany, recipient of 478,816 wheels. It is, however, Hungary that is the European country showing the greatest growth with a 57.7 percent increase in exports.
Outside the geographic borders of Europe, Japan is confirmed as the leading non-EU country for the second year in a row with 461 tons of Gorgonzola Pdo imported, up 29.5 percent from last year.
Excellent performance in Israel, Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia. New markets emerged last year in Azerbaijan, Iceland, Somalia, Nigeria, and Kosovo.
