Italian Pdo cheeses featured prominently at the latest G7 held in Puglia from June 13 to 16.
At the Fiera del Levante in Bari, the Consortium Gorgonzola Pdo, together with the Consorzi di Tutela of Asiago, Burrata di Andria, Grana Padano, Mozzarella di Bufala Campana, Parmigiano Reggiano, Pecorino Romano, Piave, Quartirolo Lombardo, Salva Cremasco and Taleggio organized tasting sessions in collaboration with Origin Italia, inside the pavilion of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry.
“An unmissable opportunity,” commented Afidop president Antonio Auricchio, also president of the Consortium Gorgonzola Pdo, – to offer international guests a taste of Made in Italy dairy excellence, the first food category of the Pdo economy by turnover, with 5.2 billion euros in production in 2022. A driving sector for national exports: with 254 thousand tons exported in 2023, Pdo and Pgi cheeses represent about 60% of national cheese exports, with an estimated value close to 3 billion euros (+11%).”
The year 2024 also so far shows export figures up from the previous year with Gorgonzola growing by 7%.
