GORGONZOLA PDO: MORE THAN 2 MILLION WHEELS EXPORTED IN 2023

According to newly released data on dairy exports in 2023, Gorgonzola Pdo is holding up well in volume in a not easy year and growing in value.

In detail, last year exports grew by 1.1% to a total of 24,982 tons or 2,081,834 exported wheels, an increase in value of about 202 million euros up 15.5% from the previous year (source Clal).

Gorgonzola Pdo remains one of Italy’s best-known cheeses abroad with a spread in 91 countries worldwide, and an exported product share over the total 2023 production (5 million 179 thousand wheels) that, like the previous year, is around 40%.

With 1,785,167 wheels, the European Union absorbs most of the export. Substantially stable is the share to the first two importing countries overall, France (485,803 wheels) and Germany (442,800), followed by Spain (155,164) where an 8% growth was recorded. Excellent performances by Macedonia (+89%), Bosnia-Herzegovina (+51%), Norway (+40%), Ukraine (+28%) and Poland (+15%).

Gorgonzola Pdo export to the rest of the world grew by 2.9% reaching 296,583 wheels. Last year 85,465 wheels went to Switzerland. The United Kingdom, which returned to growth (+8%) for the first time after Brexit, was the recipient of 44,347 wheels. Outside the physical borders of the European continent, Japan was confirmed for the third year in a row as the top non-EU importing country (44,482 wheels) with 15% growth, followed by the US (32,738, +1.56%). Excellent performance of Indonesia (+147%), Costa Rica (+48%), Hong Kong (+40%).
