THE CONSORTIUM GORGONZOLA PDO PARTICIPATED IN ANUGA 2025, THE RECORD-BREAKING TRADE FAIR

From October 4 to 8, 2025, the Consortium for the Protection of Gorgonzola PDO Cheese participated in the ANUGA trade fair in Cologne. This was an unmissable event for the Consortium, not only because of the international importance of the German fair, but also because of the significance of the German market for exports of Gorgonzola PDO cheese. With its 83 million inhabitants, Germany is, in fact, the second largest country in the world, after France, for imports of Gorgonzola PDO, which reached 468,000 wheels in 2024. In July this year, German imports stood at 262,450 wheels.

The 2025 edition of ANUGA broke all previous records: 145,000 trade visitors from 190 countries attended the event in Cologne, with foreign visitors accounting for 80% of the total attendance, taking the opportunity to discover innovations, learn about trends firsthand, and establish international business contacts. Visitors from Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain were particularly numerous. Among the main non-European countries were Brazil, China, Japan, Canada, and the USA.

The activities carried out at the Consortium Gorgonzola stand were varied and also saw the presence of the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Francesco Lollobrigida. The Consortium organized tastings of pure products and cooking shows with more elaborate dishes created by Italian chef Riccardo Cogliano, who is very popular in Germany.

Finally, on the evening of Monday, October 6, an event organized by Afidop, the Italian Association of PDO Cheeses, was held, enriched by an auction of works created by students from the “Mal Mal Kunstschule” school in Cologne. The event was attended by various stakeholders who were able to verify the properties of the Pdo cheeses on display, including Gorgonzola Pdo cheese.
